Ladies & Gentleman, People & Pups, One & All, welcome back to my own tiny corner of the All-Mighty-verse. Things are a bit cold here in New York town, and because of this everything has a delightful urgency to it. People move quickly, huddle in close, and skip the sights around them. Shame, too, since them bare branches wave all pretty in the sky – like un-gloved hands making designs in the snow. Big fat moon up there, too. Leastwise there was last night, when I started this here prose-ditty. In fact, I was taking a break outside when not one, but TWO Boston’s were walked directly by my front yard.
And if that’s not a compelling argument for getting down to it, I don’t know what is. This week we take some time to talk to Sara Harvey, who is responsible for the wonderful – and incredibly popular – “Bandito” design. She took a moment to answer our Mighty Five. Here’s what she had to say…

An Interview with Sara Harvey
by Liam Parry
First off, what do you love most about Boston’s (or Pups)?
I love animals in general but there is just something about BOston’s and the many facial expressions they have that make them so endearing to me. They just have so much attitude, I love it.
If Stinky and Mighty ran their own clothing company and commissioned you for some designs, what do you think the people on their shirts would look like??
Ha! Now that would be pretty awesome. Well, probably cute with big heads. I see them wearing tuxedos and bow ties and the girls in cute dresses. Not sure why, just seems fitting.
Where do you find your inspiration?
My inpirations comes from my everyday life and the strange images floating around in my head. I’m also a huge design nerd so graphic design is a huge inspiration to me. Surrounding yourself with other creative people doesn’t hurt either.
Can you tell us a little about your creative process for these designs? Where do you work best, what time of day?
well to be honest I started drawing Bostons because of all of the awesome friends I have made over the years that own them. Their pups inspired me to make something cute and fun. As for my creative process, I work all day as a graphic designer for a greeting card company so I try to find time to work on other project whever I can. It’s usually at night and weekends in my little studio at home.
Tell us something about your self only a pup could know.
I can communicate with animals. Only they can understand me so I guess you will never know if it’s true or not.

I leave my illustrious readers this week with a recommendation. If you, like Sara, are a self confessed “designer”, I suggest you get your hands on a copy of “helvetica.” It’s a great documentary about the history of the Helvetica font, and contemporary designers love/hate relationship with it. I know, I know, a documentary about a “font”, how compelling could that possibly be? Pretty damn compelling, especially when you realize how ubiquitous that particular font really is. It’s everywhere, like a type-faced stalker following us around from subways to store fronts to sammich’ wrappers. Check it out- that’s my two cents, anyhow.
All right, I’m away outta this for a cuppa and a stroll through the snow.
