Our mom & dad had a cookie factory in Tuckahoe, NY. Did we mention that? Click on the images below for some close ups of the in ground veggies that are popping up and super happy so far.

I woke this past Saturday morning and watched my usual hour (four hours+) of cooking shows & was inspired by Jamie Oliver to make this meal using all the fresh herbs from the garden. On the menu was Roast Carrots & Beets w/ the Juiciest Pork Chops.

Tossing the veggies in oil, salt, pepper with fresh herbs & lemon or vinegar. I'm a slob when I cook (and do anything else, really). Need to work on that.

Lining up the veggies to roast by color. Each type of veggie got it's own herb & dressing. My favorite was probably the rosemary/red wine vinegar combo on the red beets.

And here they are fresh out of the oven.

This salad was a bit of an experiment because I tried pickling onions for the first time. I put way too many and all in one place- it was a bit of a miss. I did roast my own peppers and marinate them in oil, garlic, vinegar, salt, pepper & fresh parsley. They are impossible to mess up. Yum.

Here are the chops. Seasoned and stuck with a few sage leaves which are growing in abundance in the garden. They looked and smelled incredible. I did not trust my judgement and overcooked them by following the recipe way too literally. Next time.

I made a pan sauce in the pork chop pan using the pickling liquid, a few of the pickled onions, some shallot, arrowroot & honey. I thought it was really yummy.

This is Jen's Veggie plate sans chop. That is a Hotel Pierre glass in the background. My mom was so excited when she found those at Anthropologie. I bought her a set for Mother's day. The dish is "Bristol" by Crown Ducal, England. They were also part of her huge dinnerware collection.

Happy Birthday Mighty!

Today Mighty turns 8. Get 20% off your entire order placed by July 4th, 2010. We put up a little album on Flickr of some of our favorite pics over the years. Here’s a little preview…
The Hydrant: A care package
Photos by Jennifer Daking
Lindsay at the Hydrant was nice enough to custom make Mighty & Stinky these adorable harness & leash combos. I must say, the dogs are enjoying them thoroughly & they are certainly quality goods. Mighty kind of looks like he’s wearing a hawaiian shirt- which totally matches his “I’m on permanent vacation” attitude. Check out these cute moments we were able to capture thanks to Whole Foods’ dog biscuits…

An Interview with the great Sara Harvey
by Liam Parry, Guest Blogger

Ladies & Gentleman, People & Pups, One & All, welcome back to my own tiny corner of the All-Mighty-verse. Things are a bit cold here in New York town, and because of this everything has a delightful urgency to it. People move quickly, huddle in close, and skip the sights around them. Shame, too, since them bare branches wave all pretty in the sky – like un-gloved hands making designs in the snow. Big fat moon up there, too. Leastwise there was last night, when I started this here prose-ditty. In fact, I was taking a break outside when not one, but TWO Boston’s were walked directly by my front yard.
And if that’s not a compelling argument for getting down to it, I don’t know what is. This week we take some time to talk to Sara Harvey, who is responsible for the wonderful – and incredibly popular – “Bandito” design. She took a moment to answer our Mighty Five. Here’s what she had to say…

An Interview with Sara Harvey
by Liam Parry
First off, what do you love most about Boston’s (or Pups)?
I love animals in general but there is just something about BOston’s and the many facial expressions they have that make them so endearing to me. They just have so much attitude, I love it.
If Stinky and Mighty ran their own clothing company and commissioned you for some designs, what do you think the people on their shirts would look like??
Ha! Now that would be pretty awesome. Well, probably cute with big heads. I see them wearing tuxedos and bow ties and the girls in cute dresses. Not sure why, just seems fitting.
Where do you find your inspiration?
My inpirations comes from my everyday life and the strange images floating around in my head. I’m also a huge design nerd so graphic design is a huge inspiration to me. Surrounding yourself with other creative people doesn’t hurt either.
Can you tell us a little about your creative process for these designs? Where do you work best, what time of day?
well to be honest I started drawing Bostons because of all of the awesome friends I have made over the years that own them. Their pups inspired me to make something cute and fun. As for my creative process, I work all day as a graphic designer for a greeting card company so I try to find time to work on other project whever I can. It’s usually at night and weekends in my little studio at home.
Tell us something about your self only a pup could know.
I can communicate with animals. Only they can understand me so I guess you will never know if it’s true or not.
(You can check out more of Sara’s work here.)
I leave my illustrious readers this week with a recommendation. If you, like Sara, are a self confessed “designer”, I suggest you get your hands on a copy of “helvetica.” It’s a great documentary about the history of the Helvetica font, and contemporary designers love/hate relationship with it. I know, I know, a documentary about a “font”, how compelling could that possibly be? Pretty damn compelling, especially when you realize how ubiquitous that particular font really is. It’s everywhere, like a type-faced stalker following us around from subways to store fronts to sammich’ wrappers. Check it out- that’s my two cents, anyhow.
All right, I’m away outta this for a cuppa and a stroll through the snow.
Liam

Swoon: Meg Hunt
I only just discovered Meg Hunt today & I have illustrator Lauren Gregg to thank. She commissioned the incredible piece below. Meg reminds me so much of Mary Blair. I’m loving the mice (scroll down).
Boston Buddy: Darling Daisy…

Daisy is a pup that was turned in by her owners a couple of weeks ago. She looks so cute & snuggly. The owners claimed that Daisy had cancer and was urinating blood. Well, the buddies say Daisy had a UTI… but NO cancer! Visit Boston Buddies to read more about Daisy & all their available adoptables.
The Runaways: an advance screening.

by Jen
Last night Erica and I had the pleasure of attending an advanced screening of The Runaways with a Q & A with Cherie Currie herself! This would have been fantastic on it’s own, but the event was also a benefit for Rock N’ Roll Camp for Girls Los Angeles, and the awesome movie + great cause combo just makes everything better! If you don’t know about the camp, please go to their site www.campforgirls.org, or better yet, watch the documentary they’ve made about the first incarnation of the camp in Portland, Oregon. It’s called “Girls Rock” and is available on the Netflix Instant Queue, for instant no effort viewing right now! We Daking girls went to theatre camp when we were young, but had Rock N’ Roll Camp for Girls been around for us, we would have definitely been there!!
On to the movie…it was great! The performances were incredible, it was shot beautifully, there was just the right amount of comedy, and a great soundtrack!! I guess the soundtrack part goes without saying, but you can really tell that Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning studied their subjects intently. The Q & A with Cherie was really interesting too! She mentioned several to many times that Dakota was her favorite actress, and that she couldn’t be more thrilled about her portrayal. She was quite candid about her drug addiction, how she cleaned her life up, and about the fact that the movie made her sick to her stomach to watch the first couple times around. I can only imagine!
